As a life-long lover of reading, particularly classic fiction and romantic comedies, I know how much joy a good book can bring. So when I began to write, my aim was to bring a little joy to readers, provide a little escape from the everyday and raise a few smiles. I hope you enjoy my writing and thank you for visiting my page!
Born and brought up in rural Cumbria, I moved south for work but still feel a strong connection to the countryside and the north of England. I first began to write tentatively in my late twenties as an escape from the pressures of my career in marketing, but writing gradually became a passion, then an obsession.
It was a couple of years ago, in the depths of winter and in a feverish, flu-like state, that I wrote the first paragraphs of what would go on to become my debut novel The Art Trip, and so stumbled upon my love for humorous writing. All kinds of things make me laugh, the little details of life, and when I’m not writing I enjoy travelling across the UK and overseas to immerse myself in art and culture, which is among the bigger themes which often inform my writing.
Having made a first foray into publishing with The Art Trip, I’m now slowly working towards my second novel, another romantic comedy. I won’t give too much away, but it’s set in contemporary London and draws very loosely on some of my past experiences living there. There’ll be another pair of lovably imperfect lead characters, and, of course, at least a cameo role for a cat! Meanwhile, I’ll be blogging here from time to time, posting insights into my writing, my sources of inspiration, reading recommendations and anything bookish. Thanks for reading!
